Midori had her baby today! I will write a longer post about it later. Right now, I am tired. But suffice to say, she and the baby are happy and healthy. Her labor went very smoothly and she didn't have to endure too much pain before her epidural. Baby Jellybean Reid (real full name to be disclosed later) was born at 1:59 this afternoon, 6 lbs 9 oz, 18" long, with a full head of fuzzy black hair and the sweetest little cry. She is a peaceful little spirit, and I am happy I will get to be in her life in these early days! Much love to Midori and her little family.

Well, I submitted my novella to Harlequin for its ebook program. All 13,000 words of it. Now I just wait and see. OH GOD. *practices breathing, then remembers that's for childbirth, not submission anxiety.*

I know! I'll just concentrate on chickens. Bawk bawk bawk BAWWWWWK.

The internet, it is a glorious thing! I've had a 100 gallon pond shell sitting in my shed for like, five years. After I had kids it just didn't seem like a great idea to also have a pond. So I finally dragged it out today and put it on Craigslist. I then added, as an afterthought, "Oh and I'd trade for a chicken coop." Well someone who makes chicken coops wants my pond shell! So we're gonna trade! SYNERGY!

So the coop will be 5' long, 4' high and 2' wide. It will look something like this, only not $1000 like on that page. Cait, I'm lookin' at you - what's next???

Wait, no, that's if I was really evil, not just in fiction. FICTIONAL evil. I have to keep reminding myself ...

Fishy fishy fishy fishy fishy -

I got a 100 gallon fish tank for free! A lady in my mom-group had one she wanted out of her house, so knowing me as the Crazy Fish Lady, offered it to me. Many fond wishes for her happiness. So this weekend I changed out my 4-foot 90 gallon tank with the crappy black stand for a 5-foot 100 gallon with a much nicer stand. I gained 2 cubic feet of storage beneath. Now I'm cleaning up the 90 gallon to sell. I hope I can get a few hundred dollars for it so I buy more fish, and maybe chickens!

Speaking of which, I need to go pick up chicken books from Cait ...

Congratulations to Neil Gaiman for winning the Newbery Medal for The Graveyard Book! Now I definitely have to read it. I hesitated, since I have kids and stories that involve kids in danger are always dicey for me, but dang! How tremendous for him. Read what he has to say about it here.
